Three of the Salvation Army's mobile kitchens and two of their rapid response vehicles are arriving in Maplesville, Centerpoint and Birmingham, Ala., to help provide disaster relief to tornado-torn areas after the Jan. 23 storms.
More units are on standby and will be mobilized to help if further need arrives.
The Salvation Army of Chattanooga just added a new rapid response vehicle to its fleet late last week, and it is already on standby to serve potentially flooded areas of North Georgia or serve as a backup if needed in neighboring Alabama communities.
The Salvation Army is no stranger to being one of the first to a scene of a natural disaster and is typically one of the last to cease serving. The Chattanooga mobile kitchen is still in the Apison, Tenn., community, and long-term recovery workers are still serving the Tennessee Valley after last year's April storms.
