Classic rock band Foreigner has been announced to headline the Coca-Cola stage at Riverbend on June 9.

The band, which has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, has been together since forming in 1976 when English musicians Mick Jones and ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald hooked up with American vocalist Lou Gramm.

Their debut album "Foreigner" was released in 1977 and featured the hit singles "Feels Like A First Time" and "Cold As Ice." The album sold more than four million copies and remained in the Top 20 for another year.

The blues/pop/rock band had a string of continuous hits from subsequent albums including "Hot Blooded," "Dirty White Boy," "Urgent," "Waiting for A Girl Like You," "Juke Box Hero," and "I Want To Know What Love Is," their biggest U.S. hit.

Recently, Foreigner joined Styx and Kansas for the United in Rock tour, and this past June supported Journey on their UK tour. They continued to tour this summer with Journey adding Night Ranger to the triple bill in the U.S.

While lead guitarist and founder Mick Jones is the only original member still in the band, he is credited with much of what has made the band so successful. Jones wrote the band's No. 1 worldwide hit "I Want To Know What Love Is," co-wrote every Foreigner song and produced or co-produced every album, according to the band's website.

The Riverbend Festival takes place June 8-16. Eric Church has been announced as the opening headliner for the week-long music festival on June 8, and Rossville's own American Idol Lauren Alaina will be closing the fest on Fireworks night, June 16.
